Humberside Police have confirmed that they have received a report that on Saturday 22 November the chair of an East Yorkshire Parish council received a malicious letter.
The two-page A4 letter repeats many claims made in the previous anonymous letters about the former clerk and two former Shiptonthorpe Parish Councillors.
The author bangs on again about a secret meeting at Langlands and accuses Catherine Simpson of being unprofessional in her work relating to the renewal of the village hall lease.
The writer reminds the recipient that Catherine Simpson and Mike Stathers formed their own political party called ‘The Independent Party’. They actually called themselves ‘Independent Future’. It would seem the author is forgetful or doesn’t check facts.
As in previous letters Robert Ducker is mentioned this time he is accused, amongst other things, of passing confidential information onto Catherine Simpson.
The author says he/she has experience of being a parish councillor in the area. Which if true could narrow down the number of potential authors. Or it could be a red herring.
The people targetted in the letter were members of the village hall working group which the full council set up to make recomendations about the lease renewal. The same working group that was heavily criticised at last weeks council meeting.
In my opinion the main purpose of the letter is to cause serious reputational damage to the three people mentioned.
Humberside police confirmed to me two months ago that their investigation into previous malicious letters is still open.
Anyone with information that may assist them in their enquiries is asked to call the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 25*163551.
