POCKLINGTON PLAYS CINDERELLA AGAIN.

New Goole Leisure Hub. Cost £17m

Swimming pools and leisure centres in the East Riding have been awarded almost £500,000 from the Government’s £60million Swimming Pool Support Fund.

After a successful application to Sport England, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been awarded £498,337 to help keep swimming pools open amid increased operating costs.

The main award of £490,000 will support four council-run leisure centres in:

  • Bridlington (£200,000)
  • Hornsea (£92,500)
  • Withernsea (£72,500)
  • Goole (£125,000)

Addressing the people of East Yorkshire in a recorded message  Cllr Leo Hammond welcomed the fantastic news and said the grant would support the operation of swimming pools across the county.

At least our forgotten corner of East Yorkshire was not totally overlooked with the Stamford Bridge Community Pool securing £8,337 of the £490,000

Here in Pocklington, we again get nothing whilst cash is heaped on the coastal towns. The £125,000 which Goole will receive comes on top of the £17m already budgeted for the development of leisure facilities in the expanding town.

Finally, it’s worth remembering that East Yorkshire Council plans to save £100k a year in Pocklington by disposing of Burnby Hall.
