NEW LIDL SUPERMARKET GETS GREEN LIGHT.

This afternoon members of the East Yorkshire Planning Committee voted unanimously in favour of accepting their officers recommendations that the Planning Application to build a new Lidl supermarket adjacent to Bitcoin on York Road, Market Weighton.

Tesco’s vehemently objected the new development claiming:

  • An inadequate assessment of impact on the vitality and viability of existing centres
  • Loss of allocated employment land
  • Relative inaccessibility of the application location by public transport

Each of the claims was rebutted by council officers.

Cllr Paul West was very critical of the objections raised by Tesco whom he said had been hypocritical and accused them of making exaggerated claims.

It’s understood that that Lidl hope that the store will open in Summer 2024. The solar panels which will be installed on the roof will provide 25% of the new stores power. Externally there will be a wildlife meadow and pond.
