“I believed I was elected to represent the community and as a councillor and Chairman acting with dignity in a professional manner with valuable support from the vice chair, clerk and at times some other councillors. The lap top motion was a personal witch hunt fishing expedition and had no foundation in being of benefit to the resident’s or community. I obtained opinion from many in the community who overwhelmingly did not want to delve back over 2.5 years. The pre meeting e mails and dialogue became more unpleasant and extreme then the proposal of two councillors to move discussions to confidential excluding public and press, another under hand manoeuvre.
The clerk who was also the data controller had serious reservations regarding the lap top motion amongst other issues and did not wish to be associated further with issues concerning governance and personal integrity. The hard working and well-respected Vice Chair also had similar reservations and both tendered resignations.
I was now unable to represent the views of the village and felt ethically I had no choice but to resign. Although the motion was rejected on the chairman’s casting vote it seems the witch hunt continues with an extraordinary meeting planned to rescind the previous vote as not binding.
One comment I had today was that Shiptonthorpe now has a dictator who does not care or listen to residents. This is maybe a little extreme but sums up the feelings of some residents”.
