AN UNCONTESTED ELECTION – WHAT WAS THE POINT?

Thanks to temporary council chair Leo Hammond we now know that there will not be an election in Shiptonthorpe for the 7 seats left vacant by the 7 councillors who recently resigned.
Tim Bowron and Sarah Smith are back after resigning in October. Also joining the council are village hall Chairman Richard Waud and Fran Salmon.
Because there are now a total 6 councillors (there should be 9) the council is ‘quorate’ and so able to meet and make decisions without support from the three ward councillors.
The question I’m left asking is why did 10 people write to request an election and then, apparently, not put their names forward as candidates.
What a waste of time!
