At the last two council meetings there has been discussion about issues relating to the village hall lease. Both Cllr Gough and temporary chair Leo Hammond have stated that they are concerned about the future of the village hall because they have still not received any formal update from the land registry on the question of registering the village hall.
Cllr Gough even suggested spending more money on solicitors to get things moving with the land registry.
Anyone interested in this matter should note that Cllr Gough took responsibility for liaising with the councils’ solicitors in 2023. He stated at a council meeting on 21 September 2023 that he was finalising details of a ‘Short Form Lease’ for a term of 40 years. The lease agreement had been cut from 27 pages to 9 and that everyone was happy with it.
He hoped to get the deeds back from the land registry after Christmas 2023 but he was shocked at the land registry cost of £1,300.
If his 9 page document was such an improvement on the lease it replaced, why has he recently declared that he had spent £3,600 of his own money (The costs were incurred without any prior authorisation from the Parish Council or East Riding of Yorkshire council) in connection with matters relating to the village hall portfolio, land registration, lease documentation, and associated data recovery?
To sum up. Cllr Gough led for the council on discussions with solicitors about a new lease for the village hall.
He is now concerned about the lack of documentation relating to the lease he negotiated in September 2023.
