Pocklington’s All Saints church will be staging something for everyone on all four days of the coronation bank holiday this weekend, May 5 – 8.

On the eve of the coronation Phil Gilbank will get things underway with a talk entitled ‘Pocklington’s Royal Connections’ – a guided tour round All Saints pointing out the many Pocklington people and features linked to kings and queens, and relating their exploits along with stories of bizarre coronations of yesteryear. There is no charge, meet at All Saints 7.30pm Friday 5 May.

Saturday’s televised coronation service and procession will be live-streamed in church along with a special Coronation Café serving tea, coffee and sausage and bacon rolls from 10am. The town crier, Tony Skeffling, will also be making an additional royal proclamation from the church steps at 10.50am, and the ringing team will be ringing a commemorative peal of the church bells. Come along and savour the occasion.

On Sunday 7 May the Vicar of Pocklington, Rvd Dr Jake Belder, will lead the usual Sunday morning communion service at 10.45am, which will include prayers and thanksgivings for the new king. All welcome.

On Banlk Holiday Monday the church is putting on a day of family activities and entertainment from 11am-3pm, followed by an evening concert by the Celebration Singers at 7.30pm.

The daytime activities include the popular ‘Flying Teddies’ from 12-2pm, when children can give their favourite teddies a zip-wire ride down from the top of the church tower. Inside there will be a children’s entertainer and magician, with balloon modelling and face painting. The café will be serving cakes and refreshments and their will also be tours up the 120 foot tower to experience the stunning views of Pocklington and surrounding countryside from its top. Most activities are free with teddy flights just £1.

On Monday evening The Celebration Singers will present a sell out ‘Sounds Like The 70s’ concert in church from 7.30pm with the programme including numbers from Abba, Queen, Simon and Garfunkel and many more.

Throughout the weekend there will also be a small exhibition of the life of King Charles and photographs and memorabilia of past coronations in Pocklington.
