As East Riding Council will be setting next years council tax this week I thought I’d take a sneaky peak at the councils capital expenditure plans over the next five years to see what goodies we can expect in the Pocklington area.

Capital expenditure includes one off expenditure on big projects such as new road schemes, major developments and major building refurbishment.

The good news is that over the next five years the council will spend:

• £82m on the Jocks Lodge road scheme, one of the region’s busiest stretches of trunk road, between Beverley and Hull. A new roundabout is part of a new design for the A1079, with two new roads to join it to the A164.
• £36m on a new link road for Howden
• £21m Goole Town deal
• £11m Goole Leisure Hub.
• £10m Goole Freeport Access Road.
• £10m Beverley recycling centre
• £7.8m Beck Hill Car Park Bridlington
• £6.24m Beverley South Footbridge
• £89k Pocklington Flood Alleviation Scheme.
• £18k for new LED lighting at Market Weighton School

I should point out that there are 218 budget lines for things like housing refurbishment, new vehicles, waste disposal etc. The only two named projects I have been able to identify for our area are the Pocklington FAS and LED lighting for Market Weighton School.

There certainly isn’t anything for the new leisure centre development which Ward Cllr David Sykes keeps touting at every Pocklington Town Council meeting.
