Move Mates, a charity established in York in 2018 is set to establish a local base to cover Pocklington, Stamford Bridge and Fangfoss.

Move Mates supports people to get walking through being paired for a regular one-to-one walk with volunteers. The aim is to build people’s confidence, help them to reach their walking goals and support people to become more independent whilst connecting them with their local community.

The strategy in Pocklington is to trial a volunteer-led approach. Our first step will be to find three to five passionate volunteers who will be the ambassadors for Move Mates. They will promote Move Mates locally, recruit new volunteers and coordinate paired walking activities.

This vital volunteer role is all about supporting the local Move Mates project. It’s perfect for people who love getting involved in all things community and who are passionate about volunteering and the benefits of getting outdoors for some fresh air and exercise. The role is very flexible, with a time commitment of around 5 -10 hours per week.

Volunteers will receive full training and ongoing support, ready to launch Move Mates projects later in the year.

In order to kick start things the charity is currently recruiting for two Project Officers to launch new projects in Pocklington and Selby.
